Variety reports that the Best Actress Oscar winner for “Room” is in early talks to play the part of the popular superhero in an upcoming standalone film and we can’t think of a better choice. No, really. We tried and Larson is just that much better than any other option. That happens when you knock out roles like “Short Term 12” and the lot. If Larson takes the part she would be the first Marvel female superhero to get her own film. Sorry, Black Widow. Take a number.
We spoke to Larson at SXSW 2013 and she could not have been more gracious.
Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman, writers of “Inside Out,” are taking a stab at the script, which centers around Carol Danvers, an air force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The combination gives Danvers super-strength, energy projection, the ability to fly, and the chance to sit first class in any plane she chooses. Okay, we made that last part up, but still, it’s a win all around.
Kevin Feige, leader of all things Marvel Entertainment, is producing the pic and he will probably kick ass on this project. It’s kind of what he does.
It’s commendable that Marvel continues to commit themselves to finding top-notch performers and incredible scribes. While no director has been attached yet, it’s only a matter of time. Great acting, great writers, and a talented director are the recipe for a remarkable film, and Captain Marvel is this close to having two out of three.
