The Roots need no introduction, having blessed our collective ears since 1987, and are still the house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon every week night on NBC. You might ask how such a familiar (and accomplished) group could still bring something new to the ACL table. Simple, you start off with an amazing tribute to the late (and simply great) MCA with a smashing rendition of Paul Revere by the Beastie Boys.
It also helps that no one could sit down for your performance, not just from the pure funky instrumental hip hop that was flowing from ACL’s Bud Light Stage, but all from the fact that the rain had turned Zilker Park into a bit of a mud bath. Never the less, The Roots brought some great late afternoon/ early evening funk to Austin with You Got Me and Move On Up bringing some sooth sounds before the duel of the headliners set for the end of the evening.
Once again the Roots proved that they still got it, and were a worthy addition to ACL 2012.
