Austin City Limits Review: Friday: Weezer

Although I’ve been a fan for almost 15 years, today was the first time I’ve ever been able to see Weezer live, and they did not disappoint. While Rivers Cuomo’s vocal performance live was a bit shotty, it made no nevermind to longtime fans of the band who are used to such vocal maladies on the records as well—he seems to almost revel in the discord, off-key voice-cracks that still come so often to him. They opened their set with a classic from their self-titled ‘Blue’ album, “My Name is Jonas,” which riled the crowd up to an amazing start.
Mixing in songs from their early years with songs from their latest records, Weezer put on a hell of a show from beginning to end, it’s just such a shame that they couldn’t play a bit longer, but I guess we all feel that way about our favorite acts.
