The Shuffle: TV Girl ‘I Wonder Who She’s Kissing Now’

I’ll be honest: I think sampling (especially retro-sampling) is wholly overdone in most every genre these days. So when a radar-skirting indie act shows up and says, “Here’s how to do it, suckers,” I have to laugh. You’ve probably never heard of TV Girl, their music, or their clever top-down branding as a kitsch blast from the past. But you have now. You’re welcome.

These guys are prolific. “I Wonder Who She’s Kissing Now” has enough shine and polish to suggest the band has been with a major label for years. But that’s not the case. I hear a lot of MGMT’s hipster bravado in the lyricism, but I’m going to argue that TV Girl may actually be a more accessible listen. You’ll have to decide for yourself.

But let’s be clear: DO NOT stop with this song. Check out their entire collection at http://tvgirl.bandcamp.com/
