Seth MacFarlane has put on sold out concerts, hosted his own special on Fox, just did a great job of hosting Saturday Night Live, was the roast master of Comedy Central’s Donald Trump roast, has put out an album, directed and written a Hollywood movie, and is still overseeing one of the most successful animated shows of all time in Family Guy.

The guy can do it all. So now he’s going to get a chance to prove it as the host of the 85th annual Academy Awards.

I couldn’t be more excited about this for all the reasons listed above. In recent history, the best hosts have been stand-up comedians like Billy Crystal, Chris Rock and Jon Stewart. But one of the best hosts of all time, in my opinion, was Hugh Jackman who brought music and performance back to the show. I’ve previously told people that a charismatic musician would be the best person to host the Oscars, like Justin Timberlake. Timberlake is one of the all-time best hosts of SNL and is the best host in the history of the ESPY’s (just beating out Norm Macdonald and Seth Meyers in my opinion). His song “I Love Sports” shows off everything you could want in a host.

Again, MacFarlane brings all of that to the table as he’s shown with his album Music is Better Than Words, his many songs on Family Guy, his concerts, and his previous hosting duties.

It’s been tough for previous hosts who were taking the stage for the first time because we didn’t know what to expect and didn’t know if we’d enjoy the show. MacFarlane has a different kind of standard to live up to: his many fans expecting him to be the greatest host of all time… on his first try.

Good luck, Seth. We’ll be watching. Which is more than we can say for your dad.
