Entertainment Weekly has released several images from “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” that give us a peek at new characters and a few familiar ones.

The film will include essential characters from the book like Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) and the Dwarves, but Peter Jackson has decided to also bring in characters with minor storylines or from the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy that were not in “The Hobbit.” Jackson insists that all of the characters have been adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien’s writings.

It’s been almost ten years since we last saw Gandalf (Ian McKellen), Galadriel (Cate Blanchett), Gollum (Andy Serkis) and the Shire, but none seem to have aged a day. Check out the new images below to see what we mean.

For more images, see the photo gallery on Entertainment Weekly.

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” opens in theaters Dec. 14.
